Thursdays are usually quite bland for me... Nothing much happening, or so I assume, I usually feel most tired on Thursdays and well also I usually wonder why it's not Friday yet. Essentially Thursday should be 5 hours long. Aggrh! But today I'm not quite myself.Mmmh, I'm looking forward to the Kilowatchers' first challenge! I'll wait for us to do the challenge before I can write about it, but it's scheduled for this Saturday! For some reason I'm kinda nervous, I think its due to the fatigue that's already checking in. Yesterday I was extremely sluggish; 11537 steps only!
So much for exercising... Yesterday something really tickled me. I get these Government of Kenya Documents and we are required to fill them using a typewriter! Yes a typewriter! How ancient and why oh why are we stuck in an era long gone. What happened to online forms and filling them electronically, pdf-ing them and forwarding them by email? Jeez....
Well needless to say, this typewriter issue brought along a tonne of emotions for me. You see, my dad, who is now deceased-God rest his soul in peace- gave me his personal typewriter 11 years ago. Just a year before he passed away. He wanted me to learn how to use it so that I can help him with some typesetting tasks at his office. Well, that is how I acquired the typewriter pictured above. So these GOK forms made me go back to my antique to look for my almost now forgotten equipmnet. The sight of it really made me miss my father. I can do anything to have him by me today. Anyway, God knows best. I guess that's why today I don't feel with it at all! Life!
Anyway, the machine is in tip-top shape save for the fact that I need to purchase for it a ribbon! Can you imagine from ribbon to where we are now - cartridges? Goodness! I have searched in all stationary shops and I can't find a ribbon! So if you know somewhere I can get it from, do let me know.
Technology has really evolved over those 11 years.... When you use a typewriter and key-in a letter erroneously, there is no delete button! You gotta use white out, wait for it to dry before you key in the letter again! Number "1" does not exist on a typewriter's keyboard, you use capital "I" instead! etc Hah! I'm still mesmerized at how technology has evolved in a short period of time making our lives very efficient. On the contrary I should actually at times use this ancient machine so that I develop muscles in the arms from hitting the "return" lever! Oh my...hahaha.... just too funny.
Enjoy your day Kilowatchers and all the readers out there.
Tata...
